Callejuela La Choza

One of the most exciting regions in Spain today is the region of Jerez. This is one of the regions in the world with the most long-standing traditions in wine, this is the region where Sherry comes from. Tradition is met today with new energies that are revitalizing the region and allows us to discover this unique and fascinating land in the South of Spain, one of those new energies are coming from the the hands of bodega Callejuela.

Callejuela is a small bodega located in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, this is an exemplary producer who farms about 20 hectares of land divided in three famous single vineyards in the area of Jerez. Along with classic and outstanding Sherries, Callejuela also produced a very limited amount of single vineyards white wines coming from some of the greatest terroirs in the region of Jerez. We are thrilled to bring to you today one of them: 2019 La Choza. La Choza is a single vineyard from the famous Pago Macharnudo, possibly the most famous vineyard in the region, located very close to the town of Jerez de la Frontera. There is plenty written about the vineyard Macharnudo and documentation about this single vineyard wine exist since the 13th century. This pago is known to be the source of some of the greatest Sherries.

La Choza is a 100% Palomino wine fermented and aged in old Manzanilla barrels for about seven months. Coming from the lower part of Macharnudo on a section of the vineyard of very chalky soils called Albariza de Barajuela, La Choza is a fascinating wine that showcase the very mineral chalky character of this soil carrying a wine with extraordinary grip, depth and complexity. Wonderfully layered, this wine suggest notes of golden apple & pear, toast, dry herbs and sweet spices. A textured wine driving by a sapid mineral core with extraordinary concentration and length. Fascinating, uplifting, a wine with verve and tension, worthy to be discovered and be able to appreciate one of the greatest terroir in the world.

This wine is an excellent example of a new wave of wines that can be found in Jerez today, that adds new perspective to the historic range of classically made wines in the region.

Perfect companion to enjoy it already now on its own as an aperitif of with a wide range of foods, from fishes to white meats.
